The 50 Christmas trees organised by Living Lerwick Ltd, funded by Lerwick Community Council and supplied by COPE Ltd have already changed the atmosphere on Commercial Street.

On hearing there would be no tree at the cross this year, Living Lerwick directors came up with a sustainable plan for the provision of Christmas trees in the future. The 50 trees have been supplied by COPE Ltd, who will take them back after the festive period and tend to them in preparation for use next year.

The businesses have agreed to take on the responsibility of decorating their trees, looking after them and taking them in at night. Lerwick Community Council agreed to provide Living Lerwick Ltd with grant funding to cover the full cost of the trees.
