The Living Lerwick Shopping Week runs from Sunday 26th June to Saturday 2nd July 2016 inclusive and promises to entertain and entice customers with a varied mix of events and promotions. This year’s shopping week is building on the success of the first ever shopping week held last year with more than 50 businesses taking part with instore offers and mini-events this time.

The idea behind shopping week is to give people extra reasons to come and have a look and see what is on offer. The town centre is a much busier place than people realise and is packed with exciting things waiting to be discovered. This is a fantastic opportunity for the businesses in Lerwick Town Centre to showcase what they do and what they have for sale.

A new business is on the horizon for Commercial Street and is planned to be open for Shopping Week. Dave Williams, an ex-Military Caterer, said “I’ve always had a passion for the creative side of catering and having spent 18 months on Shetland, I’ve been captivated both by the people of the islands and also the world famous Northern Lights. To that end, I am now bringing the sights and colours of the lights to my new "Mirrie Dancers" Chocolatier Shop. Using nothing but the finest Belgian Chocolate, I hope my hand made chocolates will bring new business to the Town Centre and play a part in the town’s thriving tourism trade.

Westside Pine is celebrating a successful 25 years in business this year. As part of their anniversary celebrations they will be hosting a Yankee Candle Summer Party throughout Shopping Week and having a raffle with a fantastic prize of a Kadai Travel Kit. Janet Davidge said: “I can hardly believe it’s been 25 years. It’s just flown by. It’s been great fun but there have been tough times too. I think the secret is to hang on in there and never give up.”

Alongside this, Living Lerwick will be providing music at Harrison Square on Friday 1st July and Saturday 2nd July from 12 – 5 pm. Picnic tables will be in Harrison Square and at other locations along the street. A Spot the Puffin competition will also run the full week with 25 puffins hiding in participating shop windows. A prize will be awarded to a lucky winning entry.

There are many reasons to shop locally. Lerwick town Centre was awarded World Host destination status in 2015 which shows the commitment that many of the businesses have made in customer service. They also boast fantastic product knowledge and a chance to see before you buy.

Shopping week kicks off on Sunday 26th June when many of the shops will be open. This also coincides with the visit of the cruise ship Zuiderdam to Lerwick harbour. Living Lerwick looks forward to welcoming you to the Town Centre for Shopping Week.
