SIBC (Shetland Islands Broadcasting Company) is a well known independent local radio station based in Market Street. Broadcasting since 1987, the station operates 24 hours a day and is run by husband and wife team, Ian Anderson and Inga Walterson.

In addition to local, national and international news the station also plays a wide range of contemporary music including local artists at 96.2FM, and online via the free app.

In July 2013, Ian was honoured as one of 40 radio pioneers across the UK who have made a “significant contribution to the growth and success” of commercial radio, as part of the celebration of 40 years of commercial radio. Those chosen were selected by the Commercial Radio Companies Association.

Many of the classified ads on SIBC have gained a memorable reputation over the years – everyone will have their favourite! Produced in-house, or now with the option to have custom adverts made in a specialist production studio, local radio advertising is an effective and economical way to broadcast a message or promote a product.

An official UK survey shows that in an average week, 70% of all adults listen to the radio at home, 63% in the car (or other modes of transport) and 25% listen at work or elsewhere. Even if you don’t consciously choose to switch on the radio – chances are you will hear it through the day.

Research has concluded that commercial radio advertising returns an average of £7.70 per £1.00 spent, and boosted the Scottish economy by over £150million last year. (https://www.radiocentre.org/roi/multiplier/) With SIBC classified rates starting at only £70 for 14 adverts over a week, that’s a potential return of £539 per week.

If you haven’t already tried, and seen the benefits of local commercial radio advertising for yourself, maybe now is the time to try it?
