As part of the Fair Isle Festival with a Commonwealth twist, Living Lerwick Ltd ran a ‘Flag Hunt’ competition where entrants had to find and identify 20 flags from Commonwealth countries displayed in shops and market stalls within the town centre.

BID Manager, Christena Irvine said: “Northlink Ferries kindly donated a return trip for two to Aberdeen with cabin and vehicle, so we had a great response to the flag hunt competition with lots of people busy looking for flags during the Fair Isle Festival. I think we’ve all learned quite a bit about the Commonwealth in creating the competition and hope the entrants did too. Eleanor Eunson picked the winners out of the hat from the correct answers we received.”

Siblings Karen (14) and Tom Lobban (4) hunted for the flags together and their entry was picked. Karen said: “The flags were easy to find apart from the last two but we weren’t going to give up. We found the last two on the last day of the Fair Isle Festival. Tom loves doing these competitions and we’ve entered most of them so far, so it’s great to win one.”

The family haven’t yet planned a holiday this year. When asked where he wanted to go, four year old Tom said he wanted to see the lions and pandas, so mum Tracy said she will probably soon be organising their trip to Edinburgh Zoo.
