Lerwick town centre was full of wagging tails, happy faces, and plenty of “awws” last weekend as our much-anticipated Dog Day took over the streets. The weather might not have been perfect, but that didn’t dampen the spirits – the atmosphere was still fantastic!
From tiny terriers to gentle giants, our four-legged visitors stole the show. There were cuddles on every corner, dogs proudly posing for the camera, and more than a few cheeky attempts to sniff out some extra treats.
We were thrilled to see so many people getting involved in the photo competition, with entries across our three categories – Boanniest Lass, Most Handsome Boy, and Cutest Puppy. The pictures are now live on the Living Lerwick Facebook page, ready for voting – and remember, only likes and hearts on the original posts count towards the final tally!
It was also great to share just how many dog-friendly spots we have in the town centre. Many visitors were surprised to learn just how welcoming our shops and cafes are to canine customers – and we hope it encourages even more people to shop local and bring their pups along next time.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who joined us – whether you came with your dog, popped by to say hello, or simply enjoyed the happy atmosphere. And a special mention to Ben at the Camera Shop, who captured some brilliant moments and is on hand if anyone would like their pooch’s photo professionally printed.
Dog Day reminded us of what makes our community so special – friendliness, fun, and a willingness to make even our furry friends feel right at home.
