LOCUS

For 10 years, Roisin Alexandra McAtamney, aka R.A.M, has been crafting beautiful knitwear designs that are not only luxurious but also eco-friendly. With a BA Hons in Design for Textile (Knitwear) and MA in Digital Fashion , Roisin brings her creativity to the forefront of her work, making every piece a work of art.

Roisin's journey didn't begin in Shetland. After completing her studies in London, she arrived on this beautiful island and began selling her knitwear designs at local halls and craft events. Over time, her passion has blossomed into a thriving business, and she now operates a shop on the street that opened in March 2020.

Roisin's knitwear designs are made from Merino wool, lambswool, and silk, but what makes them even more special is that they're created using surplus or end-of-production yarns.

This not only makes the garments sustainable, but also adds unique and unexpected twist to each piece.

Running her own business has been an exciting ride for Roisin. She's gone from domestic knitting machines to more automated industrial machines, and from selling
off of a tabletop to running her own shop. Her mum, Rosie, has also joined the team, bringing with her 20 years of sales/customer service experience, which has been a lifesaver for the business.

But the real fun of Ram Knitwear is the creativity and love that goes into each piece. Roisin can test out anything and everything she wants, creating new designs and exploring new ideas. Plus, she gets to meet new people who share her passion for knitwear, and the business has become a hub for all things cosy and colourful.

So, if you're looking for unique, contemporary knitwear that is both beautiful and sustainable, come check out R.A.M Knitwear! Whether you visit the shop in person or shop online, you're sure to find something that you love!
