LOCUS

Tell us about your business

Nestled on Lerwick’s historic waterfront in a beautifully converted lodberry, we’re a peerie shop filled with carefully chosen gifts, cards, and books, alongside unique products that we design and produce ourselves. We focus on ethical and environmentally conscious products that bring a little joy and colour to everyday life. Attached to the shop is the Peerie Shop Café, serving delicious coffee alongside seasonal, locally sourced breakfasts and lunches to eat in or take away.

How long have you been in Lerwick town centre?

The Peerie Shop has been part of Lerwick town centre for over 40 years, with the café joining us 26 years ago.

What’s your most popular product or service right now?

Our most popular shop items are the tea towels and bags we design ourselves, featuring different aspects of Shetland and screen printed in the UK on beautiful, thick cotton. In the café, our made-to-order breakfasts are always a favourite, using delicious local produce. Filled rolls, homemade granola, and our specially roasted coffee are also incredibly popular.

Do you have a personal favourite product?

One of our personal favourites is our recycled soft cotton blankets, designed by us and made in the UK. Inspired by knitwear created by Victoria Gibson, they’re big enough to wrap around you on the beach or cosy up with at home — and practical too, as they can be popped in the washing machine. And of course, we’re also very fond of our coffee, made just the way we like it!

What makes your business unique?

We love colour, beautiful things, and creating spaces that feel inspiring. There’s always something new and interesting to discover, and our small but beautifully curated shop sits in a truly unique historic building. Alongside that, we’re proud to serve exceptional coffee in our café.

What do you love most about being part of the local community?

Lerwick town centre is such a special and unique place — a historic, working harbour filled with small independent businesses that support one another and help create a vibrant, welcoming community.

Do you have anything special planned for Scotland Loves Local Week?

We’re excited to be launching a brand-new range of woollen gifts just in time for Scotland Loves Local Week. The collection includes unique woollen accessories designed by us, hand-knitted, made from 100% wool, fair trade, and completely exclusive to our shop.
