How long have you been in Lerwick town centre?
Smith & Robertson has been serving customers from the same premises since 1894, making it one of Lerwick's longest-standing businesses. Originally specialising in men's and boys' clothing, the business expanded in the 1950s to include women's and children's wear, as well as knitting and sewing machines.
Today, owner Edna focuses mainly on ladies' fashion, alongside a carefully selected range of menswear. Edna has worked in the shop for almost 33 years and, having grown up in Fox Lane, has spent most of her life living and working in Lerwick town centre.

What's your most popular product right now?
One of the most popular brands in store is Seasalt, which Edna has stocked since 2010. She is always on the lookout for high-quality clothing brands and regularly refreshes her collections to offer customers something new.

What's your personal favourite product in your shop?
Edna's favourite brand is Junge, a Danish label renowned for its stylish yet practical outerwear. Having stocked the brand for more than 20 years, she values its excellent quality and timeless designs.

What makes your business unique?
For Edna, Smith & Robertson's uniqueness lies in its longevity. Having stood the test of time for well over a century, the business continues to thrive while adapting to changing fashions and customer needs.

What do you love most about being part of the local community?
Edna enjoys supporting other businesses in the town centre and believes that local businesses succeed when they support one another. That sense of community is something she greatly values.
