About the Business
For Babs, the best part of running a business in a small community is the people. “I love that you get to know everyone. The people are really friendly, and I feel comfortable working here. You meet people you have a connection with. Word of mouth means more people hear about me and what I do.”
Why the Business Was Started
Babs was inspired by the independence and freedom that comes with being your own boss. “I like being in control and being my own boss. It means I can set my own rules and standards. I can diversify easily and in my own way, and I find I’m more motivated when I’m working for myself.”
Why Lerwick Town Centre is Special
For Babs, Lerwick’s charm lies in its character and convenience. “The great harbour views, and the fact you can get everything you need so easily. The town centre is really a hub for the community.”
Supporting the Local Community
“I support local events like Come to Brae days, and I’ve worked with Bridges and Youth Services. I’ve also been a freelance make-up artist on the Shetland TV series. I’m always looking to improve what I do, and I really value feedback. Listening to what people want helps me offer a varied service that suits different needs.”
What Makes the Business Unique
Babs’ services go far beyond make-up. “I don’t just offer make-up – I provide a wide range of beauty services and workshops. My approach is always person-centred, and I can even travel to you if that’s easier.”
Whether it’s a special occasion, a beauty treatment, or a workshop, Babs brings skill and care to every service she offers.
