Located in the centre of Lerwick, Shetland Somatic Arts is a modern, welcoming tattoo and piercing studio known for its creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail. This unique self-care studio offers a diverse range of services, bringing together a collective of experienced practitioners to create a welcoming and holistic environment.

The space is home to Lymfaström Therapy, offering both manual lymphatic drainage and Swedish massage. Lymphatic massage is particularly beneficial for post-surgical recovery and for individuals undergoing cancer treatments. From next month, The Brow Arc. Co will also be joining the studio, providing a range of brow and beauty treatments. In addition, Jody Does Jels and Education delivers accredited gel nail courses throughout the week.

At the heart of the studio is an experienced tattoo artist and body piercer, specialising in the hand-poked, machine-free tattoo method. With piercing experience since 2012 and tattooing since 2013, their work is grounded in both skill and care. Alongside their creative practice, they are currently in their final year of counselling studies at UHI, bringing an added depth of understanding to their approach.

This combination of experience allows the studio to offer a truly person-centred, body-led, and trauma-informed service. Each client is treated holistically, with respect for their personal history, nervous system, and individual responses. Rather than rushing procedures, clients are given the time and space they need to feel comfortable, process their experience, and fully engage with the experience.

Recognising that tattoos and piercings often hold deep personal meaning, the studio supports clients in marking significant moments in their lives—whether beginnings, transitions, or endings. Client autonomy and informed consent are central to every aspect of the service, creating a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for all.
