A Dispensing Optician (DO) is a qualified optical professional specialising in the supply of optical lenses and spectacles. This is an ever expanding and changing profession with a focus on ensuring that customers are supplied with the best product to fulfil their individual optical needs.

Our practice strives to provide the best customer experience with regards to eye health, choice of designer glasses and patient care. Having staff who are motivated, friendly and have an eye for detail is vitally important to us. You will be given full training for this career both in practice and through a recognized ABDO distance learning 3 year dispensing qualifications.

This will be a varied role and will include:

  • Supporting the eye test clinic both in making appointments, dealing with queries & greeting patients as well as performing some of our clinical tests to support the Optometrist.
  • Administration and maintenance of patient records, databases and NHS paperwork.
  • Contact lens management and teaching patients how to insert & remove contact lenses.
  • With time and training, doing spectacle adjustments, repairs and advising customers on frame choice and spectacle lenses.
  • Once professional qualification completed future expansion of this role within the business and clinically is likely.

For this position, no previous experience is needed as full training will be given. As academic dispensing training will be considered for the right candidate an aptitude for maths and science is essential and higher qualifications are necessary for entry to the dispensing course. An interest in health, science and fashion would be useful. The successful applicant needs to be positive, articulate, polite, a good multitasker and problem solver. You must be good with people, have an organized approach and always be happy to help. Wearing spectacles and contact lenses is useful but is, by no means, essential.
