The normal festive Christmas parade to switch on the town centre Christmas lights was unable to go ahead this year due to restrictions imposed on public gatherings because of Covid-19. This did not stop Living Lerwick spreading a bit of Christmas cheer though.

Working with local filmmaker Keiba Clubb, and some special guests, town centre mascot Maunsie, was able to bring the Christmas cheer to the town centre in a short video which has been viewed by over 20,000 people in less than a week since launching.

The video see's Maunsie unable to raise enough cheer to bring his own light to the area, so Olaf the snowman sets off in search of young visitors to the town, wishing them a Merry Christmas. The good wishes bring the magic back and Maunsie and Olaf are able to light the lights, including the Market Cross Christmas tree. Christmas is saved!
