Many shops have been competing for the coveted Christmas Window Competition trophy and the votes have now been counted. Jamieson’s Knitwear have been presented with the award, followed by Blye Welcome in second place and Avril Thomson Smith in third.
Lynn McCormack accepted the award on behalf of Jamieson’s. The window display depicted an incredibly detailed town centre with minute attention to detail in the fictitious shop windows, which have a close resemblance to many Commercial Street shops. These include ‘Christmas Times Bookshop’, ‘Mistletoe Stems’ and ’Yulecraft’.
Five local shoppers have also been rewarded for shopping local with the Spend at da Street loyalty campaign. Yvonne Pirraglia, Denise Bell, Margarat Strachan, T. A. Fullerton and Fiona Byrne-McCombie all received gift packages worth £175 donated by the businesses taking part in the scheme. Completed cards can still be submitted and will go into the January draw with a chance to win up to 3 vouchers worth £50 each for town centre businesses.
Emma Miller, Project Manager with Living Lerwick, said “It’s been a really busy time at da Street in the lead up to Christmas and the area is looking fantastic thanks to the incredible effort made by the businesses with their windows. The lights are also looking amazing and our thanks go to Ness Engineering for their hard work there.
“From all the businesses in the town centre, I’d like to say thanks to the customers who support local – now and through the year – and a very merry Christmas to one and all.”
Festive opening times into the new year are posted on the Living Lerwick website.
