There was a huge turnout for Living Lerwick’s Magical Christmas Light Switch-on Parade on Saturday 2nd December.

Steve Mathieson, Acting Chair of Living Lerwick said “Directors would like to thank all the people who volunteered their time to make the parade a success this year: Santa, the RNLI, the Jarl Squad, the brass band, the Lerwick Ladies Lifeboat Guild, Lerwick Community Council, the police and the members, family and friends who were parade marshals and road closure attendants.

Thanks must go to Derek Hendry and Robbie Bremner for doing such a great job with the lights too as well as the SIC electricians. Also, to all the members who contributed to the day by taking part in the parade such as Peerie Foxes and Love from Shetland and to those members who provided added attractions: Aurora Gifts, Island Larder, Love from Shetland, The Camera Centre, Begg Shoes, Coffee & Keetchin and Aald Harbour Tearoom. Lerwick Port Authority also, for help with safety at the pier. I think the pictures taken by John Coutts speak for themselves on what a great community event the businesses provided this year.”

The Magical Christmas Light Switch-on marks the start of the festive fun. There are also extended opening hours, special offers, a best Christmas window display competition, a Santa’s Grotto, a giant advent calendar and naughty elves creating mischief in shops during December. Full details and updates are listed on the events page and on the Living Lerwick Facebook page.
