Two of the Christmas competitions in Lerwick town centre concluded yesterday including the bumper draw for the Spend at da Street loyalty scheme. Six local shoppers were rewarded for choosing to shop local with voucher prize packages worth £175 each.

The winners were: Marlene Irvine, Richard Williamson, Mati Ventrillion, Alyson Halcrow, Dawn Marie Irving and J.Holden

The hotly contested Christmas window competition was won by Envi Hair Salon with their amazing Nutcracker themed window. Jolene from Envi was delighted to win first place; she had spent 5 weeks creating the display using all recycled materials. Jamieson’s of Shetland came a close second, and Visit Scotland Tourist Centre came third.

The Elf hunt tail continues until Saturday this week, and many shops will be open late on Thursday for those last-minute gifts. So far, there have been over 50 families taking part in the competition. One lucky person will win a £30.00 voucher to spend at a business of their choice.

Living Lerwick Project Manager, Emma Miller said “it’s been another challenging year for businesses in our town centre. After getting through all the problems that came with covid restrictions, many businesses are now being hit with increased transportation cost and rising energy cost. Our businesses need all the support they can get, now and in the future. Shopping local continues to be vital to our local economy.

“I’d like to extend a thank you to everyone who has supported our local businesses this year on behalf of the Living Lerwick Directors and the town centre businesses. It’s been a tough year and the support shown is very much appreciated.”

The Spend at da Street loyalty scheme will continue through 2023. Monthly draws will give one lucky winner a £50 town centre voucher every month before the double draw in December for the usual extended prize packages. Customers collect one stamp for every £20 spent in the 40+ participating businesses and hand in completed cards for a chance to win.
