Louise Grains and Katherine Jamieson receive the trophy for Best Christmas Window

Two of the Christmas competitions in Lerwick town centre concluded yesterday including the bumper draw for the Spend at da Street loyalty scheme. Twelve local shoppers were rewarded for choosing to shop local with voucher prize packages worth up to £175 each.

The winners were: Steven Jamieson, Brenda Forrest, Stephen Redpath, Ryamond Arthur, Helen Denoon, Lynne Hobbin, Alison Coles, Billy Fullerton, Kelly Davison, Elaine Lyall, Louise Kok and P. Loynd.

The hotly contested Christmas window competition was won by Jamieson’s of Shetland with their impressive ‘White Witch of Narnia’ themed window, complete with hand knitted lace crown and collar. Peerie Isles received the second most votes and Ninian came third. The public have been voting for their favourite windows all month.

The Elf hunt tail continues to Friday this week, and many shops will be open late on Thursday for those last minute gifts.

Living Lerwick Project Manager, Emma Miller said “it’s been another challenging year for businesses in our town centre and as we come to the end of another year with tighter restrictions in place, business owners are once again stepping up to provide a safe shopping or socialising experience. We would remind everyone to take extra care when out and about and let’s all enjoy Christmas with our friends and family.

“I’d like to extend a thank you to everyone who has supported our local businesses this year on behalf of the Living Lerwick Directors and the town centre businesses. It’s been a tough year and the support shown is very much appreciated.”

The Spend at da Street loyalty scheme will continue through 2022, with additional prizes provided through Scotland Loves Local funding. Monthly draws will see four £50 town centre vouchers given away before the double draw in December for the usual extended prize packages. Customers collect one stamp for every £20 spent in the 40+ participating businesses and hand in completed cards for a chance to win.
