The flagstone works at the north end of Commercial Street were completed on Friday, more than a week ahead of schedule, thanks to recent good weather. Barrier fencing surrounding the work site has now been cleared and the street will remain closed to vehicles until the end of next month to allow the flagstone base to cure.

Dave Coupe, Executive Manager – Roads said: “We’re pleased to get the work finished earlier than we’d planned with all staff involved putting in an exceptional effort to help achieve this. We’ve been able to maintain access for pedestrians and deliveries throughout the work, but now we have cleared the work site the street looks less cluttered for pedestrians to enjoy the area again. We’ve worked with local businesses, property owners and Living Lerwick to minimise the disruption and we’re grateful for their support.”

Living Lerwick will discuss event ideas with businesses in the surrounding area to use the space while the road is closed to vehicle traffic.
