On Saturday 2nd December at 3.30pm, the Living Lerwick magical Christmas light switch-on parade will kick off from Thulecraft. Santa starts at 3.15pm at Albert Wharf, turns right on to the Esplanade and travels up onto Commercial Road before taking his place as leader of the parade.
The Christmas lights (provided by the businesses in the area through Living Lerwick) will be switched on by Peerie Foxes nursery bairns waving their magic wands as they pass. This year’s Jarl Squad will be out as part of the parade and the brass band will provide music as the parade progresses
The parade will pass through Commercial Street, down Church Road and finish up at the Market Cross to switch on the new Christmas tree lights to the sound of Christmas music.
Commercial Street will be closed to ALL traffic from 2pm to 5pm. Delays can be expected on the Esplanade from 3pm to 4.30pm. Based on previous years, there will be a lot of people in the area, so drivers are asked to take care.
Shops will be competing for the title of best Christmas themed window display. A public vote, co-ordinated by Living Lerwick, will open on the Living Lerwick Facebook page from Saturday 2nd December until Sunday 10th December, so have a look and vote for your favourite.
Living Lerwick have teamed up with the Lerwick Lifeboat station to provide a grotto for Santa. He will be at the Lerwick Lifeboat station from 12–4pm on Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th December.
Town centre businesses will have extended opening hours, advent boxes, naughty elves, events and special offers. For updated, check our events and the Living Lerwick Facebook page.
Come along and have some festive fun in your town centre!
