LOCUS

Local cartoonist Stephen Gordon, AKA Smirk, came face to face with one of his most recent creations recently when he met Maunsie da Market Cross at the Lerwick Tourist Office.

Living Lerwick ran a competition last year to design a town centre mascot, and were looking for a character which represented the area. The standard of entries was excellent and Directors had a hard decision picking a winner.

Maunsie the Market Cross, designed by Stephen was chosen as the winner as it was felt the Market Cross is such a recognisable symbol of the town centre. Maunsie will be used in promotional campaigns this year, with a focus on shopping local and the benefits this brings to the local community, economy and environment.

Stephen was also presented with vouchers for The Camera Centre and R W Bayes, having chosen these shops to spend his £100 prize in.
