The event celebrated the wide range of businesses in Lerwick town centre and recognised the dedication and hard work of the people behind them who help keep the area thriving.

What made these awards special is that they were chosen by the public. Over 1900 members of the public cast their votes for the businesses they felt went above and beyond, whether through excellent service, creating a welcoming atmosphere, or making a positive contribution to the town.

Guests were invited to read a selection of comments from the public that were sent in via the voting platform. These comments were displayed in the main hall, showcasing the real appreciation the public have for local businesses.

The event was made possible with support from sponsors, Lerwick Port Authority. Chief Executive, Calum Grains, attended the event and presented the Town Centre Champion award.

Three finalists were announced for each award category, with the winners being presented with awards by Living Lerwick Directors. The awards were hand made locally by Rae Simpson.

The evening concluded with the Town Centre Champion Award. This award recognised an individual who has gone above and beyond to make our town centre a truly welcoming and great place to visit, someone known for delivering excellent customer service, bringing fresh and creative ideas, and helping create an all-round great experience for everyone who visits.

The 2026 Town Centre Champion was awarded to Celia Smith of Blyde Welcome, who was praised by voters as creating “the friendliest and most welcoming place in town,” where “you never feel alone when you visit,” and where customers are always made to feel valued.

The Lerwick Town Centre Business Awards highlight not only individual excellence, but also the strength, diversity and community spirit that make Lerwick town centre such a special place to live, work and visit.

Living Lerwick Project Manager, Emma Miller, said “Last night was a very special evening where we were able to recognise and celebrate the hard working people who make our town centre special. It was an honour to be able to present the awards, voted for by customers, to the winners and to give everyone the chance to come together and celebrate.

“Our thanks go to Lerwick Port Authority for sponsoring the event, and to everyone who took the time to vote. And of course, our continuing thanks to everyone who works so hard to provide such a fantastic range of goods and services for the Shetland community in our town centre.”
