Living Lerwick have engaged local suppliers, Da Barn and Shetland Garden Co. to provide the summer planting this year. Da Barn distributed 66 hanging baskets and 18 tub planters this past week, with staff and participants from the Garden Co. weeding and planting 11 large planters though da Street and 16 boxes at the Harrison Square parklet.
A grant of £1,000 was provided towards the cost of the summer plants by Lerwick Community Council, with the balance of costs funded from the levy payments made by town centre businesses to provide a welcoming and attractive area for customers.
Those visiting the town centre in the coming weeks can take part in the World Cup 2026 sticker trail. By collecting an entry form from Westside Pine, bairns – of all ages – can collect the country flag stickers from participating businesses. Once the collection is complete, they can submit their entry back to Westside Pine to be in with a chance of winning one of three prizes – a footfall shirt of choice, a world cup football, donated by Intersport, or a craft activity pack. The trail runs until Sunday 19th July.
Scotland Loves Local week also begins tomorrow (Saturday) and runs to 20th June. To celebrate the wonderfully unique businesses Lerwick town centre has, run by friendly and inspiring people, Living Lerwick will be publishing a series of blog posts every day on the website and social media channels. Follow each day to find out more about the faces behind your favourite businesses and how much there really is to love in the town centre!
