The last day of Living Lerwick’s Winter Festival will be this Saturday - the 21st December. Santa will be in his grotto in South Commercial Street for the last time this year between 12 and 4pm. A great line-up of talented local bands will perform in Harrison Square from 11am to 5pm and there will also be fireworks to bring in the Christmas fun with a bang!

Harrison Square and the fireworks will be dependent on weather conditions at the time and updates will be posted on www.livinglerwick.co.uk and the Living Lerwick Facebook page.

The line-up for Harrison Square is 11am Catherine and Sarah Brown & Friends, 12pm Teevliks, 1pm Sheila Henderson, 2pm Maggie Adamson & Brian Nicholson, 3pm Vair, 4pm Fiddle Finale and 5pm Love Shack.

Santa’s Grotto has had a makeover which was well received by children and parents alike. Santa will be making one last visit there on Saturday and he hopes to see lots more bairns.

To really celebrate the festive season Living Lerwick have received funding from Lerwick Community Council to put some of the fireworks from the cancelled Clickimin display to good use. There will be a short firework display at 4.45pm followed by the last band of the festival – Love Shack – at 5.00pm. The fireworks will be set off from Boating Club Pier.

Living Lerwick Events Director, Steve Mathieson said: “We hope that Santa, live music, lights and fireworks will get everyone in town into the festive mood on this last weekend before Christmas. The feedback on the Festival so far has been overwhelmingly positive, so we’re looking forward to making Saturday a great finale”.

The festival has been a big success all month with great enthusiasm from businesses, the public, those involved in the parade and all the brilliant local artists who have played in Harrison Square. There has been a great turn out for the live music every Saturday, even the snow came to make things feel extra festive! Living Lerwick were pleased and impressed with the resilience of everyone involved when the weather took a turn for the worse, clearly no one was going to let snow dampen their spirits.

Further details of all aspects of the winter festival and business opening hours over the festive period are available on the Living Lerwick Facebook page and www.livinglerwick.co.uk.

So come down to Lerwick town centre on Saturday 21st December to really put yourself in the festive mood!
